EXPOSITION

IN THE DAYS PRECEDING THE WAR, scientists and rangers are stupefied by the "unnatural occurrences" of ELECTRICAL TERRAINS and HARSH SUNLIGHT throughout the region. However, both the League and Team Rocket have determined that the appearance of this unusual phenomena follows a particular pattern—or rather, a straight line.[break][break]

INITIALLY, the heat and electricity appear anywhere from around OLDALE TOWN & THE SILENT ICELANDS to MOSSDEEP CITY. Other affected locations are THE GIANT CHASM, AREA ZERO, ROUTE 101, 103, 110, 125, 126 and the CITY OF SOOTOPOLIS.[break][break]

However, anything and anyone caught within this ley line of energy may encounter interruptions to their digital devices, heightened emotional states, or even boons to the spirit of draconic Pokemon...[break][break]

To mitigate the interfering ley lines and to prepare for the upcoming conflict, the League and Team Rocket have begun harvesting this energy. By batteries, generators, engines, solar paneling, and temporary structures are hauled to the sites of ELECTRICAL TERRAINS and HARSH SUNLIGHT. Disrupting the straight paths of these ley lines by human activity and the construction of energy structures has been theorized to weaken them... for the paths would be forced to curve and bend.[break][break]

Around the area, odd minerals can be found though the samples are far too small to meaningfully "use".

However, UNBEKNOWNST TO HOENN, the disturbance of these ley lines will galvanize the entire region into war.

OTHER NOTES

THIS MINI EVENT will directly lead into the war. In particular, the aftermath of ENGINES OF WAR will specifically initiate the war event: BATTLE OF SOOTOPOLIS.[break][break]

The HARSH SUNLIGHT is similar to MATIAS SILPH and GROUDON'S OWN.. but it is more identical to the ancient heat and sunlight conjured by Shred's ORICHALCUM MARK.[break][break]

Closer toward the end of the event, there will be an IN-CHARACTER UPDATE due to the efforts of your characters. This may also be related to the note below:[break][break]

Shred & june sleigh may be invited to a special thread (depending on plot) that revolves around this scenario. This scenario might immediately precede the start of the BATTLE OF SOOTOPOLIS though this is subject to change.[break][break]

Remiel Calcifet is conducting an archaeological dig with a few interns and assistants from the museum when he first notices the strange anomalies. Or, rather, when he first feels them. The harsh sunlight was waved off as a typical occurrence in HOENN. But the electric energy that thrummed throughout the body of ZEKROM's AVATAR was like an resounding alarm to him.[break][break]

Something was wrong.[break][break]

It instantly put him on edge.

After some delay, the others begin to react, too. At first, all cell phones went haywire. Then the earth resistivity meter went kaput. Then, rather dramatically, the drone they had been using to create an aerial map of the excavation site fell out of the sky and crashed nearby.[break][break]

Even DAMKINA, whom Remiel had summoned to keep guard nearby, reacted to whatever was in the air by standing high on two feet and raising her horns and snout. All this despite her natural resistance to ELECTRICITY: something she shouldn't be able to sense as well as her master. To the archaeologist, this meant whatever this was likely encompassed various levels of influence.[break][break]

Draconic? Radioactive?

Considering his recent studies into PLASMA and the true nature of ZEKROM's power, he hoped he was wrong. Perhaps this was little more than a freakish one-time weather event. A solar flare or an EERIE IMPULSE summoned by a nest of VOLTORB nearby. Nevertheless, he decides to call it.[break][break]

This electrical feeling strayed far from the reminiscent electronica she strummed her fingertips upon each night before she fell asleep. It pushed through the terastal as it did the crystalline she wore upon her waist; it had not been the first time she felt such feelings bloom within her stomach and soul in the slit of the earth, but it was just so different. Vitriol replaced melancholy, just as cosmic dread replaced the grim veil of all her past regrets.[break][break]

Anger comes easier to Cillian, now, and he finds it's much harder to bring himself down. Lugia's dark influence burns through him, changes him.[break][break]

And then the electricity starts.[break][break]

He's so angry all of the time now.[break][break]

He wants to punch something.[break][break]

He settles for throwing himself into his work. Rocket demands the energy be harvested, and thus Cillian commits himself to the task. His SHADOW LUXRAY pads beside him, drinking in the electricity herself as Cillian drags a SOLAR PANEL into place.

The waves churn and crash on the sandbar Tempest stands on. A blistering heat beats down, hotter than the average Hoenn summer. His skin sparks with electricity.[break][break]

It annoys him. Makes his patrol route harder to navigate.[break][break]

Beside him, Mitten shifts and shakes out her fur. She soaks in the sun's rays and the electricity like a battery, licking down her shining golden fur in places where it stands up. Tempest glances over at the Luxray and sighs to himself.[break][break]

"At least one of us is enjoying this."[break][break]

He marks down this place as another location for a potential Solar Farm, then calls out Marina.[break][break]

Area Zero is a cruel place, filled to the brim with Paradoxes that mock the world's existence. The impossible becomes possible, fiction becomes reality, and death begets life in the infinite facets of Tera Crystals.

Worlds are born and worlds die within hallowed gemstones, though few bear witness to them barring those capable of Terastalization.

It's hard to justify being in Area Zero alone, but the admin has friends in high places and a profession that grants him access to places buried under the earth. Geology and archaeology, backed by GIDEON GRAVES on behalf of the League and his own authority as Admin Fox in Rocket. Few can deny him access.

Only his body can. It aches and creaks in great pain. Coming out here was a mistake, but it's his mistake to make. He should be at Sootopolis, resting and licking his wounds. Instead, he's here fulfilling the orders of declan walsh .

Capture Regirock.

Unfortunately, it eludes him as well. Area Zero is massive, and the golem wanders sporadically in its search for... something. What that something is remains unknown to the admin, but seizing the golem for Rocket is his order. Seizing it for Hoenn is his duty. No matter what happened, that would not change.

War was coming.

"Hm." Howard leaned down and plucked a small orange rock from the ground. He tossed it up in his hand thoughtfully. He doesn't recognize the ore, but Area Zero is full of mystery and intrigue. A lack of knowledge is not a tragedy. It is potential. "Isn't this...?"

He had been told about this before. He hadn't seen it, but he knew someone that had.

Regirock could wait. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.

"Yo." Shred 's phone buzzed. "Call me back."

Nabi inhaled sharply as her body sprung forward from sleep. She realized her skin was wet with sweat and her throat dry upon several gasps. "...why?" she practically whimpered and held her head in her hands.[break][break]

It was morning. The sunlight seemed to peel away the curtains, brightly illuminating the room and heating it aggressively. Nabi tried to calm herself in bed with simple breathing techniques, but it didn't help her parched tongue.[break][break]

She gathered herself and checked out of the Center, only to feel the waves of sun weigh heavy on her shoulders. Oldale Town would turn into a desert at this rate.[break][break]

She unlocked her phone. The screen twitched. Swipe. The screen twitched again.[break][break]

After a few taps of her thumbs, her phone made the decision to shut down, despite being at full charge. She was certain of it, at least. A disgruntled Nabi pocketed her phone and moved through the streets.[break][break]

Why did her old memories torment her? It wasn't like her to dwell on painful things.[break][break]

Her eyes shifted back and forth between people: young kids playing, older folks taking their sweet time, middle-aged women negotiating the prices of fruit. They all seemed so content. Her throat tightened.[break][break]

She stopped near a small alley and leaned against the wall. Was it the sun? She was awfully hot. Maybe she was having a heat stroke. Maybe that's what was causing her to think about her parents and her grandparents and the things they said to her and the people that continuously talked down about her behavior and she didn't meant to cause so much trouble but she hated being still and being prim and proper like her parents wanted her to. They had wanted perfection, but not in the way she could provide, and then the rest of her family had wanted her to be perfect, too, and that was when she realized she couldn't live her own life without following someone else's orders, someone else's expectations, and that was why she always acted out because she hated doing as told or maybe she like the attention or the thrill. Why did she have to listen to others? Why was her mind racing?[break][break]

Since coming to Hoenn, Nabi had been doing so much better on her own. She was starting to feel like she was coming into her own.[break][break]

A single man stood at the end of alley, frustrated that his phone seemed out of service.[break][break]

Nabi watched him, counting her heart rate and her breathing as it pounded louder in her ears. It had been awhile since she had acted out. It was an unhealthy way for her to let off steam.[break][break]

She could do it now. With no one around. A single, unsuspecting man that probably had money in a wallet somewhere on his body.[break][break]

"...birthday present..." she heard him mumble to himself in the midst of her own loud, conflicting thoughts.[break][break]

She coiled her fist. It would be quick. It would be quick.

Even in the Silent Icelands, the intense heat from the harsh sunlight mitigates the cold from the area a little. The ambassador travels through the cold ground though she feels that there’s something wrong with the way that the ice type Pokemon there were not used to the heat. “Do you feel it too?” She turns to the shard of Calyrex when Charles floats with her.[break][break]

A nod came from the hare king when he answers with a “Cro-rown.” Purple eyes watch a family of Dewgong and Seel pant from the heat as Elise comes over to help them. “Please go somewhere colder. I’ll help to give you some comfort.” An Aromatherapy from the Calyrex calms the distressed seal Pokemon down as the family move to another part of the icelands that appear to be colder. “Even the Pokemon here are not liking the heat…” She muses and keeps helping any of the ice types that are being affected by the unnatural sunlight. The shard of Calyrex incinerates a melting block of ice and brings the water with Psychic to cool the ice type Pokemon down.[break][break]

The waves splash underneath Tempest, Marina sailing through the choppy water. A steady drizzle comes down on Route 125, salty and cold. Shoal Cave was near here, and that always chilled the water to an uncomfortable degree.[break][break]

Landing on a sand bar, Tempest sighed and squinted up into the dark clouds. They looked a little strange but he couldn't exactly place how or why he thought so. Maybe it was just the weird, electric feeling that kept sticking to his tongue.[break][break]

Before he leaves, some odd purple swirled stones catch his eye. They're rough and look strange, nothing he's seen in this area before. On a whim, he roots through the sand to pick a similar sized pair up, as unchipped as he can find.[break][break]

They were just trinkets, something pretty to make earrings out of. Maybe he would pair them with some more of Lugia's feathers if he could convince her to part with another one.

The harsh sunlight felt like a gift upon her skin. So soft, it cradled her cheeks, carrying the woman through the buzzing city of scientific discovery, all the way to its center, where she perched herself on top the sharp cliffs overlooking the shopping district. Right next to the machine cranking away in dutiful harvest.

Dread swam in her stomach. It felt thick between the pockets of anxieties that developed after the league's conference. So many lives were on the chopping block. One misplay, and they'll turn into collateral. Another tally to record and store away for the next generation's historian to study.

The Giant Chasm had become more familiar to Eddie than he would have originally expected. As such, this familiarity made him keenly aware that something was not quite right as he patrolled the perimeter around one of the League's newest establishments, and in a sudden moment of realization, he finally understood what it was, [break][break]

“So, uh, is it me, or is it like, really fuckin' hot out here?” [break][break]

The HARSH SUNLIGHT was far more intense than anything he had previously experienced in the Chasm. His Gouging Fire actually seemed to be emboldened by the intense light; his Toedscool, on the other hand, looked like he was wilting, [break][break]

“Maybe we oughta head back-” [break][break]

There was a sudden flicker of movement from the nearby treeline. Eddie tensed, watching the underbrush with caution, [break][break]

“Eyes up, fellas. Looks like we've got company.” [break][break]

Heat or no, Eddie was determined to protect the outpost, even if the sunlight felt like it was boiling him alive. Besides, he couldn't let Rocket get their grubby little paws on the fancy new solar tech the League had cooked up out here, could he? [break][break]

So Eddie moved forward, cautiously, and his Pokemon followed suit. The Toedscool stole one last glance heavenward, and unbeknownst to his trainer, found himself a little stronger for it.

“Ugh, it’s so hot…” A certain cosplayer fanned herself with a Hydreigon-shaped hand. She was drenched in sweat, her tongue hanging out of her mouth like a dehydrated Poochyena.

Speaking of Poochyena, those poor pups also suffered from the harsh sunlight plaguing their home of Route 101, which felt more like a humid, prehistoric jungle now. Thankfully, the recent modifications to Andrea’s Sygna Suit made high temperatures slightly more bearable at the small cost of exposing more skin.

Agitated by the primordial heat, Ogerpon took her anger out on a nearby Pecha tree that reminded the tiny ogress of her arch-nemesis, the never-rot.

“POOOOON!!!”

Flames erupted from the embittered Oni, forming a fiery replica of the Hearthflame Mask over her maskless visage for a split second. In her demonic fury, she Incinerated the tree along with all its berries.

Andrea gasped in awe. “Whoa, did you just learn a Fire move?! You’re just full of surprises, aren’t you?” She jovially remarked, her compliment causing the little citrus gremlin to blush.

The reports were coming in from all across the southern edge of Hoenn, immense surges of electrical currents, or impossibly bright sunlight beating down from the sky. The environmental disturbances were impactful, and were already causing strife, and if not studied and mitigated soon, there was no telling what could happen.[break][break]
Yuina had come to find the study of weather abnormalities and other environmental anomalies to be very fascinating, and truly stemmed from her work in tracking down and studying distortions. It was no question that she took up armfulls of equipment and other radars in order to head out to Route 110 to start getting some information.[break][break]
Moving through the route, Yuina kept Centos and Omura close, for she had a feeling given either the intense electrical fields or the beating sunlight... That they both would have a keen sense as to what was happening. She knew Centos' energy surged when he produced Electric Terrain, and Omura was empowered when he summoned Sunny Day. Could it be coincedence that the two phenomena were possibly related to what either paradox was capable of?[break][break]
Along with her too came Celebi, as Yuina worked to trust and bond with the sprite... As difficult as it might be at times. But the little prince kept a close watch on any Pokemon that might have been afflicted by one phenomena or the other as the small group worked to find a spot to set up.[break][break]
Yuina had a slew of equipment with her, including a generator and a set of solar panels, and she hoped too that Centos might be able to draw in any excess electrical energy while Omura might harness and maintain excess radiation from the sunrays... it would be a lot of study and information to take down, but Yuina was ready to get into the nitty gritty of it.

"Yea, yea, I see that--" June argued with the voice on the radio. She was elbow deep in a generator, which sputtered and sounded something awful. Idiots were all too keen to ditch gas and oil, yet all the electric stuff still blew up every other hour. Of course, she was all for a cleaner environment. Good for Hoenn, bad for big oil, whatever.

But they least they could do was make shit that actually worked right.

But on the bright side, it meant that she had a practical money farm on her hands-- oh wait. She didn't! Because she was here for the fucking Rangers. Fucking great. The second she mentioned her mastery over machines to Annalise, and she got sent out on these types of missions every shift. Why couldn't she have said she was a competitive eater? Free hot dogs sounded a lot better than hot days with hands covered in machine guts.

Oh well. At least this one was easy. As the mechanic on the other end rattled on about gears and generator expertise that spanned back three generations, she managed to get the part into place and the cords all in their right sockets. Thing blew a fuse or three, and took a circuitry board with it.

"Alright, fucker's runnin' now. Thanks for the help--" she hung up on them before they could go back into their stupid family history. No one cared. Especially the free workers

Now the League and Rangers could continue to monitor and harvest the strange electric field underneath her feet. Felt a lot like the Regieleki, except more... she couldn't put a name to the feeling. Futuristic? Out of this world? Strange.

"Don't like this one bit, Matchstick," she said to the fiery hawk. She perched on top of a nearby big machine, which thrummed from the massive amount of electrical energy present. "Keep your eyes peeled. Who knows what'll happen here..."
